Ο Λεωνίδας Καβάκος, από τους σημαντικότερους βιολιστές παγκοσμίως,

ξεκίνησε το βιολί με τον πατέρα του, Κωνσταντίνο Καβάκο, και σπούδασε στο
Ελληνικό Ωδείο με τον Στέλιο Καφαντάρη. Με υποτροφία Ωνάση, συνέχισε στο
Πανεπιστήμιο της Ιντιάνα με τον Josef Gingold. Πρωτοεμφανίστηκε στο Ηρώδειο
(1984) και διεθνώς με ορχήστρες όπως Φιλαρμονικές Βιέννης, Βερολίνου, Νέας
Υόρκης. Ως μαέστρος διηύθυνε τις: Συμφωνική Λονδίνου, Santa Cecilia, Maggio
Musicale Fiorentino. Βραβεύτηκε σε διαγωνισμούς Sibelius (1985), Paganini
(1988), Sonning (2017). Παίζει με το βιολί «Willemotte» A. Stradivarius του
1734, σύμβολο της μουσικής του αριστείας. Με το σύνολό του από μεγάλους
βιρτουόζους (Ηλία Λιβιεράτο, βιόλα - Τιμόθεο Γαβριηλίδη Πετρίν, τσέλο - Αλεξία
Μουζά Αρένας, πιάνο), κλείνει πανηγυρικά το Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ «SYRREO» με
κορυφαία έργα κλασικής μουσικής

Leonidas Kavakos, one of the world’s most acclaimed violinists, began his studies with
his father Konstantinos Kavakos, and continued at the Greek Conservatory under
Stelios Kafantaris. With a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation, he pursued
advanced studies at Indiana University with Josef Gingold. He made his soloist
debut in Greece at the Herodes Atticus Theater (1984) and internationally with
orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, and New York
Philharmonic. As a conductor, he has led renowned ensembles amongst which the
London Symphony Orchestra, Santa Cecilia Orchestra and Maggio Musicale
Fiorentino. His accolades include the Sibelius Competition (1985), Paganini
Competition (1988), and the Sonning Music Prize (2017). He performs on the
“Willemotte” A. Stradivarius (1734), a symbol of his artistic excellence. Along
with his outstanding virtuosos ensemble, (Ilias Livieratos, viola – Timotheos
Gavriilidis Petrin, cello – Alexia Mouza Arenas, piano), Leonidas Kavakos will
present classical masterpieces, to close the “SYRREO” Festival in spectacular
fashion.
