«Δώστε μου την ζωή που αγαπώ» φέρνει στον ίδιο χώρο τον βαρύτονο Δημήτρη Πλατανιά μαζί με μία από τις σημαντικότερες λυρικές φωνές παγκοσμίως, συνοδευόμενο από την κορυφαία πιανίστρια Σοφία Ταμβακοπούλου, σε ένα πρόγραμμα αφιερωμένο στον θησαυρό της αγγλικής τραγουδοποιΐας των αρχών του 20ού αιώνα.
Ο κύκλος τραγουδιών Let Us Garlands Bring του Gerald Finzi (1929–1942) περιλαμβάνει πέντε μελοποιήσεις σαξπηρικών κειμένων για φωνή και πιάνο, πρωτογενώς ως δώρο γενεθλίων στον Ralph Vaughan Williams. Από την ελεγειακή «Come Away, Come Away, Death» έως την παιχνιδιάρικη «It Was a Lover and His Lass», κάθε κομμάτι αναδεικνύει διαφορετική όψη των εναλλαγών του έρωτα.

Ο Ralph Vaughan Williams, θεμελιωτής μαζί με τον Edward Elgar της εθνικής αγγλικής σχολής, συνέθεσε δύο υψίστης σημασίας κύκλους: τα Songs of Travel (1901–1904), εννέα μελοποιήσεις ποιημάτων του Robert Louis Stevenson που σκιαγραφούν την πορεία ενός ταξιδευτή, και το The House of Life (1904), έξι σονέτα του προραφαηλίτη Dante Gabriel Rossetti, που υμνούν τον έρωτα μέσα από τις μεταβολές του φωτός.

“Give Me the Life I Love” unites baritone Dimitri Platanias with one of the world’s most celebrated lyric voices, accompanied by the leading pianist Sophia Tamvakopoulou, in an evening devoted to the golden age of early 20th-century English song.
Gerald Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring (1929–1942) is a cycle of five Shakespeare settings for voice and piano, originally conceived as a birthday gift for Ralph Vaughan Williams. From the elegiac “Come Away, Come Away, Death” to the playful “It Was a Lover and His Lass,” each song explores a different facet of love’s many moods.

Ralph Vaughan Williams, founder alongside Edward Elgar of the English national school, composed two landmark cycles: Songs of Travel (1901–1904), nine settings of Robert Louis Stevenson’s poems that trace a wanderer’s journey; and The House of Life (1904), a sequence of six sonnets by Dante Gabriel Rossetti celebrating love through shifting light and shadow.
